Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Bengal, including its capital Kolkata, is experiencing the coldest day of the season after a sharp drop in temperature on Monday. The change in weather follows a week of continuous rains attributed to the impact of Cyclone Michaung.
According to the Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature recorded in Kolkata is 15.3 degrees Celsius, one degree below the normal average.
This marks the first time this season that temperatures have dipped close to 15 degrees Celsius, with the maximum temperature also falling three degrees below normal at 25 degrees Celsius.
Other regions in the state, such as Howrah, Hooghly, North and South 24 Parganas, East and West Medinipur, Purulia, and Bankura, have witnessed a significant temperature drop, ranging from 11 to 14 degrees Celsius.
The Meteorological Department predicts a clear sky and a continuation of falling temperatures throughout the week, causing an increase in cold conditions. As evening descends, fog is spreading, reducing visibility, prompting cautious driving.
